Preparing a medical ride: appointment, assistance and documents

Clear preparation helps with scheduled journeys to doctors, clinics, rehabilitation or dialysis.

5 min read

For a medical ride, appointment time, mobility and required assistance should be discussed early. A medically related journey is not automatically covered by health insurance.

Plan outward and return journeys separately

State when you need to arrive and whether the return journey has a fixed or flexible time. If treatment duration is uncertain, later phone coordination may be useful.

Describe mobility needs accurately

Explain whether you can enter the vehicle independently, use a walking aid or need accompaniment. This helps determine whether the available service is suitable.

Clarify reimbursement in advance

Questions about prescriptions, approval and reimbursement should be clarified with the medical practice and insurer. A taxi company cannot replace a binding insurer decision.

Quick checklist

  • Appointment location and arrival time
  • Outward and return journey
  • Mobility and required assistance
  • Check prescription or approval in advance

Frequently asked questions
